About AMCS
Our Montessori Approach
We are a Montessori-inspired public charter school — traditional in structure, innovative in spirit, and connected through our MicroSociety.
Celebrating Maria Montessori's Birthday
Each year, we honor the birthday of Dr. Maria Montessori (August 31, 1870), the Italian physician and educator whose pioneering work reshaped how children learn. Her philosophy of following the child, cultivating independence, and nurturing a love of learning is the inspiration behind our school's identity — even though we bring that inspiration to life in our own way.
Who We Are
Montessori-Inspired, Not Montessori-Purist
Atlantic Montessori is a traditional public charter school. We operate just like any public school — we follow the Broward County School District requirements and the Florida B.E.S.T. Standards, we administer state assessments, and our students use computers and digital learning tools every day.
What sets us apart is that we infuse Montessori concepts and philosophy into our teaching. We are not a strict Montessori school that follows every Montessori tradition — instead, we take the principles that matter most and weave them into a rigorous, standards-based public education.
Standards-Aligned

Student-Driven

Leadership
Students lead, collaborate, and take ownership.
MicroSociety
Real-world roles bring learning to life.
The Connection
How Montessori Meets MicroSociety
At the heart of Montessori philosophy is a simple belief: children learn best when they are active, independent, and given real responsibility. That's exactly what our MicroSociety program delivers.
Montessori Philosophy
- • Learning is student-driven — children choose work that engages them.
- • Hands-on, concrete materials build deep understanding.
- • Independence and leadership are cultivated from a young age.
- • The classroom is a community where every child has a role.
Our MicroSociety
- • Students run real businesses, a bank (Eagle Bank), and a government.
- • They earn paychecks, manage money, and make decisions.
- • Every student takes on a leadership role and responsibility.
- • Learning connects to the real world — exactly as Montessori intended.
Two philosophies, one mission.
Montessori gives us the why — student-driven, independent, leadership-focused learning. MicroSociety gives us the how — a living, breathing society where students practice those principles every day. Together, they turn our school into a place where children don't just learn about the world; they run it.
