Student Progression Plan
Understanding how your child moves from one grade to the next — and what's expected along the way.
For Parents
What Is the Student Progression Plan?
The Student Progression Plan (SPP) is the official Broward County School Board policy that outlines how students advance from one grade level to the next. It spells out the academic standards your child is expected to meet, the assessments used to measure their progress, and the support available when extra help is needed.
Think of it as the roadmap for your child's academic journey through school. It keeps expectations consistent across every school in the district and makes sure promotion decisions are based on clear, fair criteria — not just a single test score.
As a Montessori charter school, AMCS follows this plan while also delivering instruction through the Montessori method and the Florida B.E.S.T. Standards. The Student Progression Plan ensures your child meets all district and state requirements for grade-level success.

How Students Move Forward
The plan defines what a student must know and be able to do at each grade level before being promoted to the next grade. It sets clear, consistent expectations across every Broward County school.
What's Evaluated
Progress is measured using report card grades, state and district assessments (like FAST and Star 360), attendance, and teacher observations — together giving a full picture of your child's growth.
Support Along the Way
If a student struggles, the plan outlines the support available — intervention programs, small-group instruction, and extra help — so every child has what they need to succeed before promotion decisions are made.
Parent Questions Answered
What is the Student Progression Plan?
It's the official Broward County School Board policy that describes how students progress from one grade to the next — including the academic standards, assessment requirements, and support services used to make promotion and retention decisions.
Why does it matter to my family?
It tells you exactly what your child is expected to learn each year, how their progress is measured, and what supports are available if they need extra help. Knowing the plan helps you partner with teachers to support your child's success.
How is promotion decided?
Teachers and school leaders look at multiple pieces of evidence — report card grades, assessment scores, classroom performance, and attendance — to decide whether a student is ready for the next grade. No single test determines promotion.
What if my child needs extra support?
AMCS offers research-based intervention programs (like Read 180, Math 180, Heggerty, and Bridge to Reading) and small-group instruction. If you're concerned about your child's progress, reach out to their teacher early in the year.
