This section provides resources to help families understand school policies and procedures. Knowledge of the discipline guidelines helps parents and students set clear expectations and navigate any concerns together with our staff.

Discipline Matrices

The Administrative Discipline Matrix is a Broward County School Board document that outlines the standard consequences for various types of student conduct violations. It ensures that discipline is applied consistently and fairly across all schools.

The matrix lists every possible type of incident (from minor classroom disruptions to serious safety violations) and specifies what consequence a student should receive for their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th offense. Parent contact is required for every single incident — so you will always be notified. School administrators may adjust consequences if there are special circumstances, but they follow these guidelines as the foundation.

What do the consequences mean?

Verbal Warning / Written Reprimand: A formal spoken or written notice that the behavior is not acceptable.
Time Out / Detention: Student is temporarily removed from the classroom or assigned before/after-school or Saturday detention.
In-School Suspension (ISS): Student remains on campus but is separated from the general school population for 1–5 days.
Out-of-School Suspension (OSS): Student is removed from school for a set number of days. An Alternative to External Suspension (AES) is offered when available.
Loss of Extra-Curricular Activities: Student loses the privilege of participating in clubs, sports, or school events for up to 30 days.
Parent Contact / Conference (Mandatory): School must contact and/or meet with the parent/guardian for ALL disciplinary incidents.
Referral to Support Services: Student is referred to the School Counselor, Social Worker, or Family Therapist.
Behavior Intervention Program (BIP): For serious repeat offenses, the student may be assigned to a district-run behavior intervention program instead of expulsion.
Expulsion / HOPE Scholarship: The most serious consequence. The student is removed from the school. The HOPE Scholarship may transfer the student to another school of choice.
